All Rise For Standing Desks

If you’re considering a new or replacement desk for your workspace, a standing desk is worth consideration. Standing desks aren’t necessarily for everyone but those who want greater flexibility with their desks may want to consider a standing desk.

Let me be clear … I’ll be the first to say … Give me a standard desk with four legs and I’ll be good … and it’s true! I don’t need anything overly complicated, sophisticated, or expensive to use as a desk in my workspace.

That said, if I’m going to invest in a desk, it’s reasonable to go the extra mile to get a desk that offers maximum flexibility for years to come … and, with the variety of standing desks available, you can find one that is relatively affordable, and which might be in the ballpark range of a standard desk. You can also go with one of the major brands and get one that has a wide array of configuration and customization options if it’s within your budget.

I considered a variety of brands and options before deciding to go with Uplift Desk. Uplift Desk is on the more expensive end of the spectrum, but they do have a lot of configuration and customization options as well as accessories and other products to complement their standing desks. And Uplift Desk products are backed by a fifteen year warranty with certain exceptions.

I went with the Uplift 24” (24” x 42”) Deep Standing Desk (V2) and customized the configuration with the Advanced Comfort Flush Keypad and 8-outlet mountable surge protector among other options. The desktop itself along with all the core components felt durable, sturdy, and appeared to be of good quality. Each of the components required for assembly were well-organized and well-packaged and the overall organization appeared to be structured and thought out. The assembly took a few hours but went relatively smoothly. My only issue was the fact the wire management tray couldn’t be installed simultaneously with the 8-outlet mountable surge protector as the designated mounting areas overlapped with one another. I subsequently opted to keep the 8-outlet mountable surge protector and set aside the wire management tray.

I would recommend ordering the Soft Roll Desk Casters which will make moving the fully assembled Uplift Desk a lot easier than lifting it. I held off on the casters during the initial purchase but subsequently went back to order them. I would also suggest having a flat wrench set on hand as you may need it to tighten the locking nuts on the casters to the base of the desk. I didn’t have one at the time and turning the locking nut by hand wasn’t cutting it, so I had to use a standard wrench which was a bit too thick to do the job. I managed but I would strongly recommend getting a flat wrench set. It may come in handy!

When considering the size of the desktop, be sure to account for any corner turns you need to make to get it into your designated workspace. A larger desktop fully assembled may not be easy (even with casters) to move from room to room if you don’t have enough clearance to make those corner turns. And if you think flipping the desk into the vertical position will solve your problem … think again! The fully assembled standing desk will be quite heavy so you won’t want to do any additional heavy lifting let alone flipping the desk into the vertical position.

Get that measuring tape out, survey your space, and plan accordingly!
