Why I Stopped Using Wireless Charging

Yes, wireless charging is simple, convenient, and clean. No messy or tangled cords and cables to deal with. Place your device on the wireless charging pad/stand and let the device charge. Great, right?

Well, not so fast!

Wireless charging does come with some downsides. It’s slow to charge at 5W or 7.5W for iOS devices (and up to 10W on other devices) depending on the wireless charging pad/stand that you are using. If you need to check/use your device, you’re probably going to lift it off your wireless charging pad (perhaps less so on a wireless charging stand) meaning your device will stop charging. Many charging pads require your device be properly centered on the charging pad. If it’s off-center, the device won’t charge. Imagine charging your phone overnight only to realize in the morning your device was off-center and didn’t charge at all!

That’s not to say there aren’t plenty of good use cases for wireless charging. However, I’ve made the shift back to traditional wired charging since it works best for me. That said, I’m not fond of the slow wired chargers and clunky adapters either! Sometimes you just have a bunch of devices plugged in and those clunky adapters obstruct outlets. That’s why I primarily use the Anker Nano. It’s small and sleek, about the size of Apple’s 5W charger, but it’s a 20W charger offering faster charging and it’s extremely versatile. It single-handedly replaces my 5W to 20W range of chargers for various devices (iPhone, iPads and AirPods).

The Anker Nano has a USB-C connector so you can connect a USB-C to Lightning cable for Lightning devices and USB-C to USB-C cable for USB-C devices and it’s affordable.

If you’re looking to step up from the Anker Nano, Anker also has the Anker Nano Pro in 20W (for single device charging) and 40W (for dual device charging) options and the Anker Nano II in 30W, 40W and various 65W options for charging a wider range of devices.
